Tread Lightly: Eat More Plants

Our food choices affect energy, water, waste, transportation, greenhouse-gas emissions, personal health and animal welfare. Being more mindful of the environmental impact of our food can help each of us shrink our footprint on our fragile planet. What we eat has a bigger impact on the planet’s landscapes, water resources and climate than anything else we do (see sidebar). Food waste and the use of disposable dining ware also impact our environment.

In celebration of Earth Week please help Green Genes, Health and Wellness and Bon Appétit to conduct the following experiment:

Join us in choosing sustainable food options and eating practices in our cafeterias by pledging to a Green Monday

Starting Monday, April 23, every Monday in SSF cafes and Grab & Go locations will offer plant-based food options for employees taking the pledge and anyone interested in healthy, sustainable food choices. Starting today, employees can pledge to Green Monday, committing to:

  • Eat less meat, dairy and eggs and more plant-based meals on Mondays;
  • Make an effort to minimize food waste by purchasing only what can be eaten;
  • Select reusable dining ware whenever possible.

Look for the Green Monday logos on cafe station signage to identify the greenest meal options each Monday through July.

For the sake of planet earth, consider joining our experiment!
